Buddies

Piper has been feeling a little under the weather the past few days, nothing too bad...she's been running a low grade fever, stuffy nose, and hacking cough. She's been a little difficult at times, but my boy Adler has been so patient with her and so concerned. He is constantly asking her if she's all right, making sure she has her blankie, and catering to her every whim. The other night, she was so miserable, so I put her in the tub to freshen up. Adler came running in insisting that he go in with her.."she needs me, I'm her best buddy..she's my sister forever!" Piper was crying, reaching towards him saying.."My buddy..my buddy"..so in he went. A little later, when she dropped her Popsicle, he gave her his without even thinking. I love that they are so close..they get along so well, rarely a squabble, as close as two siblings could be. Adler is a bit more attached than Piper, whenever she leaves the room, he needs to know where she went..when he gets a snack, he always asks to have one for Piper. He's older, so I think he's just a bit more aware. Piper does have her moments thought. A week or so ago, she went to the grocery store with my mother. As always, she picked out a surprise, this time it was a pack of brightly colored, squishy lizards..which she called dinosaurs. My mom told me that Piper refused to let her open them. When they got home, she came running in, holding her pack of "dinosaurs", and screaming.."Where Adler, where Adler??"...she ran over to him, grinning from ear to ear, and showed him her pack of dinosaurs..she said "look what I got...you share me, you share me?" It was then, that the package could be opened. They dumped them out on the table, and she gave him the blue ones..his favorite. It almost made me teary, watching her happily share her surprise with him..and the fact that she refused to open it, until she was with her brother, made it that much sweeter. Adler and Piper..buddies indeed!
